About US
Vision
Following the approval of the University Administrative Committee (UAC), the Office of Mainland Affairs (OMA) was officially established as a coordination and governance support unit between HKUST and HKUST (GZ) within the University’s "Unified HKUST, Complementary Campuses" framework. OMA serves as an innovation engine that aligns HKUST's development with national strategies. Rooted in the Greater Bay Area and extending across China, OMA integrates HKUST into the nation’s sci-tech innovation ecosystem and high-quality development agenda.
More than just a window, we act as a bridge that connects policy with opportunity, coordinates resources with action, and aligns campus initiatives with societal needs. Our goal is to transform HKUST’s academic excellence and innovative energy into tangible impacts that support national objectives. We aspire to position HKUST as a global model of international collaboration and integrated development, serving as a strategic partner in China’s modernization.
Mission
Our mission is to cultivate and optimize HKUST’s strategic collaboration network with mainland China, enhancing cross-departmental, cross-campus, and cross-regional coordination to ensure the University’s mainland-related initiatives and operations are efficient, coherent, and sustainable. Specifically, we focus on:
- Strategic Coordination and Governance Alignment
In keeping with our Complementary Campuses framework, we provide high-level coordination and governance support to HKUST’s leadership for the development and integration of HKUST(GZ) and other mainland initiatives, ensuring seamless integration and resource synergy between the two campuses in academic, administrative, and operational dimensions. - High-Level Liaison and Policy Enablement
We engage in high-level dialogue with central and local governments, industry leaders, and key partners, interpreting policy trends and providing strategic insights to position HKUST as a key contributor to national and regional strategies. - Resource Integration and Brand Building
We break down internal barriers, provide integrated academic, research, and administrative resources, and facilitate the design and execution of major cross-disciplinary projects. As the University’s unified external interface for mainland engagement, we continuously enhance HKUST’s brand visibility, policy responsiveness, and strategic influence. - Risk Management and Opportunity Development
We conduct systematic assessments of opportunities and challenges within the mainland development landscape, providing risk analysis and strategic guidance to ensure HKUST’s steady and meaningful engagement with national initiatives.
