HKUST Mainland Innovative Medical Talent Development Program
The demand for healthcare continues to grow as the global trend of population ageing intensifies. To meet future societal needs, healthcare systems urgently require clinical scientists and biotechnology professionals with both research and clinical treatment capabilities.
As Hong Kong's first research-intensive university, HKUST not only has a strong research foundation but a deep commitment to train the next generation of clinical medical professionals. Sponsored by the Shanghai Medical Innovation and Development Foundation (SMIDF), HKUST has launched the Mainland Innovative Medical Talent Development Program. Under this program, the University is collaborating with top mainland hospitals and medical schools to jointly develop medical professionals with research and clinical capabilities. This initiative is helping clinicians learn advanced research techniques while accelerating the transfer of research findings into clinical applications.
The inaugural training program focuses on brain health. SMIDF will fund 30 clinicians specializing in this field, including physicians from Beijing Tiantan Hospital and Fujian Medical University, who will receive research training at HKUST. The University will assign at least one research mentor to each participating clinician and provide them with the necessary laboratory facilities to carry out diverse research projects.
